Eagle Rock

A huge boulder overlooks Eagle Rock from the north and the shadow it casts when the sun hits just right gives the neighborhood its name. The eagle, though, isn’t the only reason for its Small Town USA feel. Eagle Rock Blvd and Colorado Blvd are the only main veins where restaurants dotting along give the town its growing, and unassuming, foodie reputation - even if many of them have been around for solid decades. Since 1914, Occidental College has attracted scholars, and additionally, artists have also felt the draw. There’s a refreshingly slower pace, compared to the rest of LA, that completes the Craftsman house and Spanish bungalow setting.

Top Knot is the go-to spot for Eagle Rock vintage since opening summer 2015. This boutique has kicked aside the idiosyncrasies of typical vintage nightmares and has made finding a well-worn t-shirt and faded jeans easy. No musty smells. No thicks layers of dust and the sneezing that goes with it. No claustrophobia-inducing hoarding that makes it impossible to sift through the racks (a.k.a. no fire hazards). Instead, TK has set up a wonderfully edited boutique that just happens to carry vintage - owner Natalie picks vintage as if it were headed straight for her own closet. Points here for her great eye, reasonable prices and well sorted, color-organized racks.
