Red Hook

Red Hook is the oasis outside the City that's SO close to the City. An old fishing and shipping neighborhood, Red Hook houses some of the friendliest businesses - and people, in all of the five boroughs, due largely in part to its NYC meets New England vibes. You won't find high-end boutiques or five-star restaurants, but everything combined will make up an all-around five-star experience unlike any other in NYC (and, trust - you'll discover a handful of other gems not on this list, too).

You're probably all like, "what? it's a supermarket." When really what you should be thinking is, "Right, it's THE supermarket." The food-obsessed in me wants everyone to know that this place has it all - the largest selection of everything from local and fresh produce, basic groceries, organic products... There's a room dedicated to olive oil and another to coffee. In the summer, the lobster roll ($10) is a treat, enjoyed in their back patio with killer views of the the building it's housed in, a vintage Red Hook trolley, and NY Bay.
